Emphasis On The “Raw”
By Dr. Jeannie Thomason co-founder of the American Council of Animal Naturopathy
When heat destroys (“denatures”) the natural shape of enzymes, they become nonfunctional. When we feed heat-processed pet food to our dogs and cats (carnivores) necessary enzymes are absent; the burden on the pancreas is greatly increased.
According to Gabriel Cousins, MD in his book “Conscious Eating”:
“Evidence…strongly suggests that eating foods devoid of enzymes as a result of cooking, food irradiation, and/or microwaving causes an enlargement of the pancreas and also stresses associated endocrine glands….In all of nature, the human pancreas is three times larger, as compared to total body weight, than that of any other animal. What is interesting is that when mice are fed cooked foods, the ratio of their pancreas weight to total body weight becomes approximately that of a human’s. When they are switched back to a raw-food diet, their pancreas shrinks back to normal size. The most obvious conclusion is that the pancreas becomes hypertrophied, or enlarged, because it is forced to keep up a high digestive enzyme output.”
An unnatural demand for high digestive enzyme output is required when we feed our carnivores non-species appropriate foods (grains and vegetables) and heat processed foods.
A few of the benefits of feeding a raw diet to our pets are:
Lipase and Protease are enzymes found abundantly in raw live foods that assist in weight management. Lipase helps the body with digestion, fat distribution, and fat burning. Without lipase, fat stagnates and accumulates. Protease helps break down proteins and eliminate toxins. Eliminating toxins is essential to burning fat because the body stores excess toxins in body fat.
Raw meat, bones and organs are rich in enzymes, vitamins and minerals as well as antioxidants. These ingredients boost immunity and may reduce risks for serious illnesses, such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Eating raw foods provides an energy boost as the body’s electrical frequencies are increased! If you stop feeding processed foods and treats to your pets and focus on feeding them what they were designed to eat in a raw meat, bones and organ diet you will be blown away by the vibrancy they will develop due to the high enzyme and nutrient content.
Feeding raw diet improves the digestion and elimination processes in the body.
In my opinion, it is no coincidence that since 1950, as processed food (or both humans and pets) became readily available and affordable, that cancer, irritable bowel disease, diabetes, kidney and liver disease and obesity rates in the United States have steadily increased and are now at the highest point ever in history (for pets as well as humans). The effect from consuming heat processed food equates to – no true or live nutrition.
